Bait debate:

Over the years - some of the testers have said to me that certain baits improved over their time used on the bank .

The first time I used the baits overseas i went to great lengths to keep the freezer baits from white spotting and moulding up ..I’d air dry them and hang them up in trees to slow any degradation down ..

But over many years a pattern emerged - mainly from lads who put time in on their syndicate waters that the baits became sticky and began to mark up with white powder on the outside skin ..

alarm bells 🔔 sounded and I got phone calls asking how to prevent it from happening and make baits last the

duration ..

of course you want your boilies to look like the day they were made and fresh from the packaging- but I can only tell you that you would be more than wrong to assume that this is better ..

while your baits were marking up with white marks - different ingredients exposed to moisture and air had molecularly created an extra cell structure to the chain of amino acids that each ingredient had within and because of mixing themselves together formed another molecular structure. These are commonly known as free amino acids and are the nutrients that are released from the baits and into the lake water or river water that we fish .

Also - these proteins and nutrients release sugars and organic acids which carp are attracted to- organic compounds have a ph higher than 7 plus , and acid compounds have a ph lower than 7 .

This is how carp detect changes in water - stimulated by positive or negative charges in water ph .

How ? By dilution - water can carry up to 60% solids as a carrier before it stops being soluble .. so a carp detects positive or negative effects from baits emitted aminos in this way by it’s chemoreceptors built into its body glands .

End science and chemistry class lesson ……

So with this in mind - your baits milking up are actually better/stronger than when you purchased them as they have became ‘ charged ‘ .

I fish overseas a lot - I hear all the time anglers say - the week got better with time as we felt the carp came to the bait - or settled down or the full moon was in orbit ….. bullshitt!!!!

It’s because your bait started to ferment and release food signals ..

I’ve had quite a few testers tell me their session went mad after their baits got sticky and milky here and overseas, and on reflection after long thought 💭 mine did too ..

shelf life : now this brings me to preserved baits … good or bad ?

Well I’d say good as a back up in the van or garage as pre bait or some for a rainy day… but I was taught fresh was best all those years ago from better anglers than me … now I get it…

Particles: how many of you have had particles that smelled sickly 🤮 so you thought they had spoiled … your wrong to think that!!!

That is lactic acid formation… animals and fish go nuts for lactic acid .. so do we … butter , Marge , eggs , milk , creams , cheeses and so on …get the picture?

Rancid acid is particularly liked by animals like dogs 🐕- they’ll lick your fingers and feet for a bit of sweaty smell all day long coz it sends them crazy …

Carp are no different- they live the stuff and on 1 venue u used to fish years ago ( Baston ) there’d be a scummy corner full of rotten weed that stank / yet the carp would make a B line for it daily …

Salt licks - farm animals love them - we know use rock salt on baits dusted etc .. chemicals charged with water in lakes ..

So nature tells more than some knobend on a carp podcast trying to make money off bullshitt products propaganda..

Back to bacteria 🦠 and chemistry…so u see how things really are now and nature tells all not some wanker on the YouTube channel or Instagram or a carp mag ..their just trying to make money off your naivety …

Summery:

Sticky baits that are white and not green or blue are edible and are very attractive to fish .

Preserved / shelf life are inert ( non active) but can be eaten and supply food inside the fish - but not as attractive.

Amino acids and lactic acids are your best friend in baits

Sticky / smelly / sweet particles that have fermentation ( boozy smell ) are 10 times better than new ones ..

These are facts !!!

Others : washed in / washed out baits and coated are other forms of transportation of attraction into the water .

Feel free to ask me questions…

I think it’s high time anglers understand bait more
